Most Long Term Care Homes in Ontario have a waiting list due to the high demand for care and Kristus Darzs Latvian Home is no exception. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care regulates the management of the waiting list and the admission processes. All applicants are categorized according to priority. Because Kristus Darzs Latvian Home is a culturally based Home, clients of Latvian descent may take priority over other clients on the waiting list. When there is a vacancy, Kristus Darzs notifies the local CCAC placement coordinator who contacts the next appropriate applicant or their CCAC placement representative to make a bed offer.
Once the bed offer is accepted Kristus Darzs Latvian Home is notified. The CCAC manages the wait list and assigns a priority category based on date of admission, ethno-cultural priority, immediate care needs and health status.
